We’re looking for volunteers!

Do you love history, and all things heritage?  The Swan Guildford Historical Society is looking for volunteers, administration staff, tour guides, researchers and more.  We value our volunteers, without them we could not maintain the collection, or operate the museum.

Our volunteers work in TWO different areas.   Tour guides greet visitors, and show them around the Heritage Precinct on Meadow Street, including the Colonial Gaol, Taylor’s Cottage, and a 1920’s outdoor wash house.  A buddy system is used to train new guides.  They learn through information contained in a manual of core information sheets, and by shadowing experienced guides until ready to do tours without assistance.  Tour guides choose the day they wish to volunteer for the weekly roster  –  operating hours Tuesday to Saturday, 9.30 am – 2pm.

Volunteer opportunities are also available at the Society’s headquarters located at 119 Swan Street Guildford.  Here, volunteers work on ‘back of house’ tasks, such as scanning photos, accessioning items, assistance with display preparation, and data entry under the Curator’s supervision,
