Monday night meeting with a guest speaker 12 September 2022

29/08/2022 by Gaye Sweeney

Our next Monday night meeting with a guest speaker takes place on 12th September 2022.

Time:  7.30pm start

Venue:  St. Matthews Anglican Church Hall, Stirling Square Guildford

Richard Rennie, a retired science teacher is our guest speaker.  He will be talking about West Australian Stuart Booty (1890-1971), an inventor and entrepreneur who had a passion for new technology and a vision for recording sound.  Booty was an electrical engineer, filmmaker, radiologist, electro-therapist and owner of one of Australia’s earliest record companies.

His inventions include the Vitavox gramophone, a movie camera and an electrical machine designed to heal people with nervous ailments.  He claimed to have made Australia’s first brown wax disc – the first stage in the production of shellac records, also known as 78s.

Come along to hear about this amazing Australian.  After the talk, stay for a light supper, cup of tea/glass of wine, and some networking. All welcome.

All welcome.
