The Society hosts history talks on the second Monday evening of each month.  A programme of excellent speakers is planned for 2021.   Venue:  St. Matthews Church, Stirling Square Guildford. Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.   After the presentation, mingle, enjoy a light supper and get to know us better.

ANNUAL EVENTS

AUSTRALIAN HERITAGE FESTIVAL April – May

Each year we participate in the Australian Heritage Festival held in April / May, hosted by the National Trust.  Tours and events are organised around the annual theme chosen by the National Trust.   In 2021 the Society presented walking tours, exploring the early days of convict involvement in Guildford.  Participants heard stories of convicts who helped shape Guildford and surrounding areas.

ANZAC DAY  25th April

Join us at the war memorial in Stirling Square Guildford for an ANZAC Day service commencing at 9am.  After the ANZAC Day ceremony, come to the Mechanics Institute Hall for a cup of tea and an ANZAC biscuit.

WESTERN AUSTRALIA DAY  First Monday in June

This year, celebrate Western Australia Day on Monday 7th June 2021, with a flag raising ceremony commencing at 10am.  Our guest speaker Catherine With has lived in Guildford for over 40 year.  She will share the story of her father, the great grandson of two early settler families, Henry Trigg of St. George’s Terrace (the Settlement’s first Government Builder of Works), and William Devenish of James Street Guildford.

Location:  Grassed area behind the Colonial Gaol at 24 Meadow Street.  Following formal proceedings, please join us for morning tea in the Mechanics Institute Hall.  Note: If the weather is inclement the ceremony will take place at the Mechanics Institute.
