Guildford to Bassendean swim

Swim items on display

Check out our display entitled “The Guildford to Bassendean swim”.  It provides a glimpse of an era when the annual swim was a must for locals eager to test their skills.  A newspaper article describes an easy win by Sheila Holman, a momentous feat from the days when women were not encouraged to enter swimming races.

Besides newspaper photos and clippings about the race, information about sun hats, swim caps, ladies fashion of the day, and the latest swimwear fashion is provided. All items on display are part of the Swan Guildford Historical Society’s collection.

The display can be seen in the Swan Valley Visitors’Centre, corner of Meadow and Swan Streets Guildford.  Entry is free.

Opening hours: daily from 9AM to 4PM (Except Christmas Day).
