September Talk – Monday 10th September

‘Animals at War’ by Ms Anne Chapple

Anne has had a life-long fascination with history and heritage and enhanced this with an
incorporation of history studies in her Bachelor of Education degree. On a voluntary basis,
Anne has a strong involvement with historic ANZAC Cottage in Mt Hawthorn, and has won
several awards for her writing on the history of the Cottage.

This presentation explores the animals that served and still play a vital role in times of war.
From the well known and honoured contribution of horses, donkeys and pigeons through
to lesser known animals, birds and even smaller creatures these “critters’ not only
comforted and provided solace for our troops so far from home, but were often responsible
for saving lives in these dangerous times. The talk will include a brief description of the
history of ANZAC Cottage and its connection with the “Animals at War”
