Gaye Sweeney – Tour Guide and Archivist

Gaye is a retired librarian who became a volunteer tour guide in 2013.   “I grew up in Bassendean and have fond memories of visiting Guildford as a child.  Before retiring from full time work I became a volunteer when I answered an advertisement calling to tour guides at the Swan Guildford Historical Society, and decided to give it a go.  Since then I have enjoyed being a tour guide each week, showing people around the Colonial Gaol and Taylor’s Cottage, and talking about Guildford’s importance in Western Australia’s history.

As well as tour guiding, I am the Society’s Archivist, taking care of and maintaining an interesting collection of books, documents and historic artefacts about Guildford and surrounding areas.  Many of the items held in this collection are rare or out of print and must be carefully preserved”.
